I've tried..

DownThemAll - Hated it, caused my machine to crash/lockup all the time
SpeedDownload - This was okay, and i'd probably have put up with it if it was free, but it wasn't really feature rich enough to warrant my cash..
Flox - On paper it should've been perfect, but it just wouldn't segment downloads.

I used to use "Free Download Manager" on Windows and loved it, just something simple that would segment files is what I want, for the Mac.

Any suggestions?

Download managers are veerry helpful if you use rapidshare or the like, make it much simpler, and quicker too.

SpeedDownload is the only one that came close to Flashget Classic on windows for me.

Don't they basically spam the server with connections?

Naughty naughty web user :p

Safari has always been enough for me, so no comment..

Segmenting is useful when downloading from servers that have high bandwidth, but limit it per connection. At home I can download at 1.2mbps but a download site may limit that to 200kbps. Most download managers do support segmenting now, the file is split and each segment has a seperate connection.

If the file was segmented into 4, i'd essentially get 800kbps.
