It's taken this long for this to get settled?

IIRC I remember (very vaguely) that it was an issue way, way back in the early 00's, with some retailers refusing to take mastercard or IIRC use the mastercard payment processing services because it was higher than VISA's and IIRC MC was because of that somewhat of a less useful card (Barclaycard used to offer both MC and Visa, but dropped MC).
