my mp3 player is full, i want to batch convert the playlist to a lower bit rate (currently around 192kbps) so i can get more on it - any recommendations for this? i run windows xp.

also any recommendations on how i can reduce the filesize - i probably want stereo, what sample rate is ok...it's just for running

This should do what you want; as regards bitrate, probably 96kbps would give you a bit of quality with decent smaller file size...

Dbpoweramp is a nice piece of software and i'd also recommend it.
Experiment with bitrate settings and see what you prefer. I'm sure you realise that converting an mp3 to a lower mp3 will deteriorate the sound quality a fair bit more than if the music was ripped to the lower mp3 directly in the first place so if you have the original music you may want to rip directly to that bitrate. I guess if it's only for running and you'd be happy with music lower than 192 then it won't matter a great deal though.

if they're currently 192

i'd use cdex with lame, and convert to 32-192 vbr

should be around the same quality, but with smaller file size
