Free one year subscription to Microsoft technet

From reading around the net it now seems like this was an epic mistake on Microsofts part. You are only supposed to get access if you are an invited member of a special program they are running and not a member of the great unwashed like ourselves. Apparently new signups have been stopped and those who have accounts should expect them to stop working in 24 hours time.

read. you wont be using the account any longer.

and they are fixing the problem now. the site is down

https://om2.one.microsoft.com/offer/technet_emea.aspx

the accounts that were made before the error..will most likely get cancelled and the keys de-associated

Think I will hold off installing anything for now as MS must surely cancel these keys so no point installing something they will then disable later.

Note: there is no need to keep requesting keys. When the site catches up all the keys you requested will be there.

At least they were when I just returned to give it one more try.

Patience...

Found some news that Microsoft know exactly what they're doing.

My source is http://blogs.zdnet.com/igeneration/?p=1763

Also an article about it on neowin

This has been offered to the 'great unwashed' as long as said unwashed has a valid shipping address, don't have to be an IT professional, don't have to be executives in big software companies, you just need a roof over your head and a door with a postbox :)

there are your sources. next time try to read the thread first, before posting

same here just lost access to all keys and downloads. thought it was a bit too good to be true.

should have copied the keys into text file :( but then as said in all likelihood they have cancelled all associated keys as well.

managed to grab win 7 rc off it though, does beta key work with rc version or do you have to get a new key?

There were only so many RC keys and they were all posted in the Win7 RC release thread here at OCuk. If I remember correctly, there was only a dozen different ones for both the x64 and x86 version. The reason why there were so few is that they were VLK and so could be used and activated an unlimited number of times. As such, we all posted them freely in that thread. All you need to do is dig that thread up and use any key you find :)

Hello, does anyone know how to re-install this 'Microsoft File Transfer Manager' thing as whenever I try to download something it won't actually download and just have the status as stuck 'Suspended'.

Is that basically saying the servers are getting hammered or something else is wrong?

Anyone with any idea on this? I'm trying through Vista, yet it works absolutely fine on XP on my laptop. It's really bugging me!

If it helps, on XP the program is installed here...

"x:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\TransferMgr.exe"

Where x is the letter for your boot drive. I don't use Vista myself but you might try looking for the same folder in Vista's "Windows" folder and deleting the appropriate .exe in that folder instead. Hopefully that will force Internet Explorer to redownload it. If it does, next time your start it up, click on the options button and then on the first tab at the bottom it will have the option to "Place app shortcut on desktop". When you've done that it will be easier to load it and checking the properties of that shortcut will tell you where it's installed :)

<- is posting from a Vista Ultimate install that I just activated.

So let's see if it gets remotely shut down or I get a bill. :P
