Free screen recording software?

I'd like to record my gaming and benchmarking runs in order to display the occasional artifacting im getting with my new 280x. I was hoping someone might be able to recommend a free program that can do this.

I've googled it of course and there seems to be a lot to choose from and i'd rather not spend hours testing each one.

OBS allows you to capture stuff, as well as it's primary function of streaming to services like Twitch.
