built a new pc and waiting for bf3 to come is there any free to play games i could play to test out my new pc

The only free games I can think of are Team Fortress 2 and Alien Swarm, both Steam games however due to their age they're not really going to 'test' a new PC really, graphically anyways.

I would also be interested in seeing if there are any other decent ones about for my upcoming LAN

arma 2 has a free version via steam - you could give that a whirl?

Lord of the Rings Online is F2P.
Rift is F2P upto level 20
Aion is F2P

I've tried GTR2, but I have to say that another free to play legendary racer - Live For Speed (http://www.lfs.net/) is better in both graphics and physics. GTR2 has good driving tutorials though.
