Hi

Anyone use aol as a service provider ?...If so have you been told that your connection will be upgraded ?

Just befor christmas i recived a Christmas card from AOL...One of them we thank you for your custom kinna things , In the card it went on to say that over the next 6 mounths thay will be upgrading my ( and others ) 2 meg connection to 8 meg ..... FREE OF CHARGE .

No need to say how happy i was to hear this and im waiting to see what happens next .

I just wonderd if anyone else using AOL have had the same thing and if thay have seen any changes in connection speed yet ?

Thanks

Maddad

This will coincide with when BT actually start offering an 8MB service.
As you're probably aware the fastest home service from BT at the moment is 2MB/256k
The 4MB+ speeds are either bonded (more than one ADSL line bonded together) or from an LLU.

BT are currently trialling Max-ADSL which will see 4MB (possibly) and 8MB services to the end user.
However roll-out of this service is not really expected before the middle of 2006, maybe even the end of the year.
At this point AOL are obviously planning on offering free regrades to this service (if your Christmas card is anything to go by).
I'm guessing you received the card as many felt that the roll-out of an 8MB service from BT was due during Q1 2006 - however this was never an affocial roll-out date.

Suspect it'll be a while before we see either 32 or 64 Mbps from ADSL :p

MaxDSL is up to 8Mbps, with an increased upload rate, all depending on the capabilities of your line. - you're not guaranteed 8Mbps, but what you do get should be stable.
There's no guarantee you'll get 8Mbps, so I wouldn't be getting my hopes up too soon.
