I have a question. If I opened up say a server pictures of autos , and it listed a load. I downloaded, but it was only one page of many, how do i know where the rest is? and how would i know what to select?

Click on subject? to category it?

EDIT:

Sorted I was forgeting to view posts after loading headers.

Same here, newzbin is great., especially V3 as it's a one click process :D

I also have Nildram as an isp, it says i have newsgroup access, but doesn't explain one iota how to set up access??
http://www.nildram.net/support/section/news/1/

Only 2x30k connections but news.nildram.co.uk resolves to giganews so its great retention and completion. As long as you don't want to download vast amounts of stuff and have a bit of patience its plenty adequate, certainly beats paying too.

Only thing that is worth paying for imo is newsleecher (sans supersearch), 2 years of very regular updates and its a joy to use. And regarding supersearch, theres plenty of free web based news search and nzb sites.

Oh excellent stuff thanks mate, I couldnt for the life of me find anything on the Nildram site. :)

had a dabble - decided usenet is not for me.

or P2P

so back to being an angel :)

looks like my average 2 gig download per month is not now going to get ruined - and I wonder why I moved from 10MB to 4MB LOL !

:)

The problem is that if you're only using NZB files then you're missing out on at least 60% of the stuff out there that doesn't have NZB files.

probably - I'm just a woos though - too scared of accidently downloading some violent pRon or something by mistake.

Mark.

From my 14 years of Usenet experience you will only download something like that if you actually go into the newsgroup devoted to it (yes the odd thing is cross posted but very rare in the groups I visit).

You dont want to know what I accidentally downloaded once while searching for "Atlanta" :p

A said you wont download anything dodgy by accident.

To sum up you need

Software
WinRar (To extract the compressed files)
Quick Par (To repair files, this also checks they are all there)
Newsleecher or equivalent (Software to actually grab the files)

Subscriptions
Something to allow you into the newsgroups, this can be free from your ISP but the retention is usually terrible. I use Newshosting.com at $14.95 per month for unlimited. Work out about £7.50 in pounds.

Something to actually allow you search what you want, there are a few ways to do this. Either using Newzbin.com and paying their fee to allow download of their .NZB files or using Supersearch which is built into Newsleecher (see above), this however is an additional cost. Or using something called News Searcher which is the same as Super Search but its free, it kind of bolts onto Newsleecher. The other way is to search the raw groups using Newzbin.com.

Good guide you wrote there mate! However, if you want an easy all in one step (and I find it works very efficiently), would be to download autounpack. It will repair and unrar all your files and you can set it to either keep/delete par files and rar files upon extraction.
