Free very basic CAD

I'm moving into a new house and want to play around with what will fit in the rooms with fairly accurate measurements. I assume there are loads of free-but-pretty-crap AutoCAD alternatives out there- which one is good for very simple 2D drawing to scale?

Sketch Up? Remember using that in school ages ago and I think there's a free version out there now.

have a look at the MagicPlan App. I've used it a few times planning room layouts and it works pretty well

You can use Autocad free for 30 days, that might be long enough to do what you need?

Definitely use http://www.sketchup.com/ - it's very easy to use and it's great for what it does.

Another vote for Google sketchup, used it a while back to plan out my bedroom. Really easy to use and has a huge library of your typical every-day house stuff.

Try Draftsight.
It is primarily a viewer but does allow basic functions for new drawings.
Just have to register with email.

I've downloaded Sketchup. But it's a free trial of the pro version. Is there not a basic free version that isn't a trial?

It isn't Google Sketchup anymore (as I've just discovered!).
