Free VNC software that works with Mac

I will be remoting into my home PCs from out and about, via a VPN into my home router. I'd like to use VNC, so that I can then locally connect to my home computers.

I don't trust it. I want to VPN to home, then use something that only works behind my network rather than over the internet.

I don't trust access to my computers to any third parties.

Using VNC now, didn't realise VNC server came with 5 free licences for personal use.
