...yes I know you get what you pay for, but is there anything obvious that I am missing if I go for a free account at somewhere like 000webhost.com?

I just want some space to test a few things out and just practice with CSS etc.

As there will be no money being made etc, the thought of spending nothing to begin with appeals to a tightwad like me!

Anyone using them at the moment - are they okay?

Cheers
M.

Just signed up with 000webhost for two of the free accounts. The first was set up about 2 weeks ago and still not heard anything from them, the second was set up within minutes which was good.

Also you can use PHP/MySQL on the free account which is a reason why i moved to them to test them out

@Mammalian: I know I could do it all on my laptop, but I missed out that I want to do some more PHP / MySQL stuff as well otherwise I would have taken your advice :)

@chrisxuk: Cheers for that - might sign up and see what happens then. Hope I get a 'set up in minutes' experience.

install xampp on your pc then :) much much easier never having to upload everytime you make a tiny change to a file.

People say that 000 has consistent down time, but you wouldn't know until you tried it for yourself. Go for it, see if it's any good and report back. Strange though, i can't see anywhere that sais the word 'Advertisement'...

Been using 000webhost for a couple of years and had almost no problems! no downtime anyway.

The only problem was with them not deleting one of my older accounts which then would not let me register a domain because it was still linked to my old account, but that was recently solved ;)

They are perfect for none essential websites or personal/family type sites and 100% spot on for testing...

I have one site on 000 and its fine, it's not brilliant but it's fine.

Their servers seem slower than my paid for web space, but still useable, and they have a good range of features, especially for a free host! There was quite a lot of downtime one week when they were dealing with DOS attacks, but since then i've not noticed any.

You still can do php/mysql stuff on your own computer. Either install php/MySQL and use IIS or install xampp.

Just registered with 000webhost, will be handy for me in the mean time until i get a site built and a decent domain name registered :)
