Free web software: classifieds / database

I'm looking for a piece of software I can install onto my site that will act similarly to the website discogs.com. Ultimately it is a classifieds website, but once a category has been created it stays on the site for future reference rather than is deleted off.

Any ideas?

This is something that's possible in a lot of the free CMS applications.

Joomla, Drupal and WordPress are all capable.

I can only give specifics on WordPress as it's personally my preferred solution but look up "custom post types" and "custom taxonomies".

For example this would allow you to create adverts (as a custom post type) that belong to hierarchical category (custom taxonomy).
