Hi guys, I just placed an order for an Acer Aspire 6930G and i noticed that it qualifies for a free upgrade to windows 7 (well so called free about £12 in delivery)

That comes to my question which is on the free upgrade would i be able to use that for my main vista running pc? or will it be bound to the laptop ive just ordered?

hope someone can share some info thx:)

Check the upgrade small print. many manufacturers offered a W7 upgrade for machines purchase before a certain date in Jan 2010. So check the qualifying date.

Like i isad im qualified for the free windows 7 upgrade. But do I have to use the upgrade on the laptop i just bought or can i use it on a different machine?

No, you can use the upgrade on any machine, its not tied to the manufacturer, well this is the case with Dell anyway. I got my Dell upgrade and installed in on my laptop and my desktop with the same serial, the only thing with installing it on my desktop was that I had to phone the automated service to activate it, but this was easy to do.

legally your only allowed to have it installed on one or the other, both version may be working but one of them will be classed as a pirate copy

Legally it is also worth remembering that your licence is generally fixed to the device to be upgraded. So if you are using the OS on an alternative PC you are potentially in breach of that licence.
