Hi,

Have just bought one of these. How do I map the drive once its connected directly to my PC via ethernet?

Thanks

Well when its connected directly to your PC via ethernet Im assuming there is no DHCP server running on your PC so it will be given a automatic private IP address (APIPA), youd need to run the software that comes with it to find its IP address then go to through all the configuration. If its like most NASes then you go to my computer>map network drive:
\\<IP address>\<Shared Folder>

Simple as that!

Had a quick look at the specs and it has the line:

"Easy configuration in your network via built-in configuration assistant"

Any ideas what that is - is it explained in the paperwork?

M.

Try logging into your router and finding the DHCP Lease table.

Here you should see something like

MAC Hostname IP
00-FF-F5-74-ED-19 FreecomNAS 192.168.x.x

Open up a new web browser and go to http://192.168.x.x

From here you can configure the network shares.

He said it would be connected directly to his PC, which is a bit of an odd thing to do to a NAS but will be given a 169.254.xx.xx address range unless he is running a DHCP server on his PC.
