I got invited to FreedomPop today, although on a second glance you don't actually need an invite, but it does look like my invite got me free activation.

It looks pretty good, it's in beta in this country, but from what I've heard it's very popular in the US.

It runs on the 3 network and the free account comes with 200 mins, 200 messages and 200MB data which covers all of my mobile needs.

Delivery for the sim is £1.99 and there's an activation of something like £5, but other than that it's completely free. Their paid for packages, if you need more data or whatever, are actually really reasonable as well.

They don't have a number transfer system set up, so can't move from Orange properly, but if it's any good then I'll definitely be moving.

Anyone got any experience with it?

Edit: there's also a FreedomPop app on the PlayStore. Looks like it'll let you make calls and text over wifi which is perfect for me as my signal sucks at home.

Edit: in fact, I can already use the app to make calls and send texts and I haven't even received my sim yet. Quite impressed with this so far.

I saw another thread about this a few months back. Do you have a link to where you got it from? Just done a quick Google and the site says you get a free trial then its £8.99

Go here: http://uk.freedompop.com/uk?experience=organic.default

Click 'CHECK AVAILABILITY NOW', fill in your postcode etc, choose your sim type, then choose the basic account option from the right.

The invite I got was actually for the £8.99 pm account, with a free initial month, so I just signed up for that as it had free activation, then you can go in to your account and downgrade to free.

Either way, if you do sign up for the 8.99 trial, it takes 2 mins to downgrade to free, so doesn't matter which way you do it really.

It uses VOIP, so you need a decent data signal (uses Three's network) or a Wifi connection. Seems to work okay apart from, for me, work only has 2G access on the EE network so bit of a dead spot when not in the office

Ah, I see, so that's how they can afford to provide it for free!

That's ok though, I can't make calls at all at my house anyway (0 signal) so would use the app for calls/texts over wifi anyway, then I get full 3/4G in the office, so no probs there.

Quite looking forward to them making the number transfer system live as I'd like to swap from Orange.
