Well, the missus is down stairs watching Britains Got Talent  and I can't be bothered to bring the 360 upstairs to play GTA4 on the 17" TFT I have, just not the same after playing on a big telly.

Played COD4 for 30 mins but I am bored stupid. Looked up to find this sitting on the shelf. Loved it when I first played it. I could play eve but I really can't be assed with it at the moment!

Anyway, I knew this was very popular both SP and MP, any decent mods etc for it now to either add new stuff in or improve gfx? Never really liked MP, not enough people.

I always used to play on the Jolt Server that was always full :) was a fun rp server as well. No idea what the mp is like these days. I think there are quite a few mods lying around for it, try a quick google.

Many mods about yes, used to play on wireplay vanilla a year or 2 ago. The problem now is MS have taken down the global server which hosts the server list, so you have to go to a community and join a server through their IP. Freelancer was awesome if only they could make a new version that's just as good but more people flying in the world.

Freelancer was such an underrated game, it's one of the very few that i've gone back and completed multiple times.

Lancers reactor is a must if you want to enjoy it fully, it's kind of cheating but i travelled around the galaxy and found all the shipwrecks with advanced weapons using their guide, then sailed through the single player game.

I found MP to be disspointing to be honest, mainly because there was a theoretical best ship/weapon combo which everyone obtained, which ended up with no variety, you need something like eve where people have all kinds of different ships and combinations.

Eve doesn't really compare to Freelancer. Freelancer is very arcadey and you can dodge, etc. very quick by wizzing the mouse around. Eve is more of a sim. You also have to pay for Eve (granted there is a trial).

i haven't played a space sim that has topped freelancer. the ending was fairly open ended im surprised that there has never been a sequel

eve is a very VERY different game a good game but looks for a completely different audience. u have to be more patient where freelancer has a much faster pace.

the x series was good but again there was a lot of trading etc and not so much action.

there's been a few other titles over the last few year but they've mostly flopped

Used to love Tachyon: The Fringe personally. apart from X3 that was my favorite space sim.

In fact I found it the other day and might install it and see if it runs on my PC :)

Freelancer was just behind Freespace 2 in my list of favourite space games. I can't rate Freelancer highly enough. Best mod was the Rebalance mod but the last time I checked Lancer's Reactor didn't have it as it was having issues.

I used to play on jolt multiplayer for quite a while until I lost my key :( Planetary scraps were really common! :D

I used to own a huge torpedo destroyer in that mod. It was slow as hell but it had major firepower. Pics below.

The jolt server was ace i used to RP a bit as the police force the LSF :p only time in a game that i have ever RP'd

Well, just finished it. 12 hours 30 mins.

Cracking game. What is annoying is now there is no aim, no reason to carry on playing. I am now level 23 and have access to some bigger ships etc that I couldn't use during the story, however I can't see the point now :(

I've just restarted Freelancer after sorting out my Nvidia settings to display 4:3 without stretching on the widescreen monitor. Classic game, although the main story does have a habit of dragging you away from the side missions and trading. This time I'm trying to avoid getting into the story until I've enough money in the bank to kit out a heavy fighter, which you really need for the later New York missions - the starting ship is the space equivalent of a Fiat Punto!

The mouse control takes a bit of getting used to but don't let it overwhelm you. Shame you can't own more than one ship as in X3 but then you don't need to spend hours ferrying energy cells or meat cahoonas in your little fighter before you can get going.

Have to agree with the sentiment expressed earlier, like other games which attempt to combine free play with a mission storyline, you are left wondering what to do when the story ends. A sequel from MS would be nice, they can do a follow up to Train Simulator so let's have something for the space genre too!
