Hi all,

I'm trying to have a play with FREENAS on an old Asus P5AD2-E motherboard.

Freenas boots from the USB Pen Drive - But it doesn't detect thr SATA Hard Drive that's connected..

Any ideas please?

Does the drive need to be formatted or un-formatted?

Thanks

I'm going to assume that you know the drive works 100% and its not a boot drive, i.e. jumper bios etc...

Freenas is based off FreeBSD, is the SATA controller on your motherboard supported? you can find out over at FreeBSD site.

I run 8 sata drives on my freenas, 1.5TB each , and two IDE @ 74GB ones ~ 12 TB, I know weird having the 2 but they still work for storing useless garbage, UFS partitions on all, never had a problem.

Should not make a difference if drive formatted or not, if it doesn't recognise it it will tell you and prompt you to format it into a format it does.

They have a decent forum, you could try looking or asking (http://sourceforge.net/apps/phpbb/freenas/index.php) reason being that you will have experts on there that will have most likely run into the Asus P5AD2-E.

I don't know, it could be you need a bios update?
