I’ve noticed that there are 2 versions FreeNas 8 and Freenas 7.

Obviously 8 is the newer version, however it seems to be missing a lot of content which I’d be interested in such as the various Itunes/DLNA servers and also the option to add the Transmission torrent service.

Is there a reason for this and is it worth going with FreeNas 7 as a home media server? Does the 7 also have the remote web access ability to allow me to control various settings from another computer so the server can be run headless? Anyone have any similar experience?

Also if I was to use FreeNas and wanted to add any extra features such as an auto ripping service any ideas how I’d go about this? Also how is the front end of the FreeNas software? I had the Vortexbox where there was no pretty GUI and it was all command based which I struggled with a lot.
