FreeNAS SQL

I'm running freeNAS on a spare PC as a File server but I'm trying to get bittorrent and SQL working but having no luck. I've done multiple Google searches but with little avail.

Anyone had experience with this or have any ideas?

FreeNAS is based on FreeBSD, right? Does FreeNAS include portage for package management?

Yes it's based on FreeBSD and has an option to install packages.

Hmm, now that I think of it it might be tough to add software to such a stripped-down system. I thihnk you'll get the best advice if you ask in the official forums: http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=507590

On a side note what Torrent client do you want to use? I recommend rtorrent but it's not for the feint of heart.

Official Forums seems to be a bit 'tumbleweed' dead so thought I'd try here. It is very stripped down but works great as a file server. Maybe I should try a server based Unix/Linux Distro?

As for torrent clients, in my travels I've found bittorrent/utorrent to be the best so far.

I'd sugest torrentflux I have it on the home server and it runs fine. good thing is I can access it anywhere.

I'll second that, torrentflux is a brilliant bit of kit. Maybe it isn't the fastest but it's really user friendly...

One of my friends used FreeNAS and managed to corrupt most of his data. I've always used a Linux install for file servers.
