Hello,

Does anyone know what I should be looking out for when buying a Freesat HD box. I notice some go to 1080i but I am aware that my new tv will be 1080p "full HD" which I believe the blueRay dvd's show in. Any advice would be appreciative.:)
 
Freesat HD and blu ray are different so assess the requirements separately.

Freesat is 720p or 1080i depending on the broadcasters decision and based around 50HZ. As nobody on Freesat is using 1080p you dont need to look for it on an HD box. Sky and Freesat have no confirmed plans for 1080p boradcasts due to the increased bandwidth it would gobble up.

Blu ray discs can be encoded in more ways on the discs and sometimes it will be worth having a tv/player combo than can output and display 1080p.
 
i was thinking about getting freesat too, do i need any kind of special arial or anything? or will the one i use for freeveiw do the job?

theres a bit of a give away in the name - freeSAT ;)

you need a satellite dish for freesat - the same sort as used by sky should be fine.
 
dammit, oh well it was worth askin rather then goin out and buying a freesat box only to find it dosn't work :p don't know if its worth it if i need to buy an expensive sati too (how much are they?) and i not long had the aerial fitted lol
has any1 got FreeSat HD and is it worth it?
 
I've got it, basically your paying a one off fee for bbcHD which only broadcasts in the evenings and ITV HD which is completely random in its scheduling (i've only recently found a web listing for it)

PQ is good and as an added bonus, if you have trouble with patchy freeview reception this gets around it.

You can connect it to an existing sky dish without moving the dish.
