I currently have a digital Ariel for my room which runs freeview. I am looking at getting freesat what’s a decent freesat box?

And will i receive all the current freeview channels + the odd HD channels out there?

Does anyone have freesat yet and what are their thoughts?

This would be better off in the Home Cinema & Hi-fi section! There are already several threads in there which should answer your questions :)

You need a satellite dish, I know that much because it's what's stopping me from having Sky or Freesat installed!

Rented accomodation?

If not then you can install it yourself. It isnt hard. Heck, if you window faces the right direction and you dont have funky double glazing then you can stick your dish up in your room facing the window.

Sure that'd look lovely when you bring the ladies home.

"Oh don't mind that, that's for my freesat... DON'T TOUCH IT, YOU'LL MISALIGN THE SIGNAL!"

Don't mean to hijack your thread, but i've got a question to.

Am just (next two weeks hopefully) about to move into a place that has Sky, they'll be obviously taking the Sky box but leaving the dish and all the cabling. Can i literally just buy a freesat box, connect it to the existing Sky satellite and away i go? Or do i need to re-point the dish to a different satellite? If i do, would it be easier to go for the Sky "freesat" option (with a Sky card) or is there no HD on that?

Edit: By the way i am talking about BBC/ITV Freesat, not Sky Freesat. I don't know what the differences are but i know i'd prefer nothing to do with Sky.

Yep you can just plug the freesat box into your sky cable, no extra hardware configuration is needed.

When it works, its superb, but a bit of googling reveals many issues with freesat, so it will be worth doing some homework befor stumping up the cash.

Just dont buy the cheap Bush box, ive had 2 fail on me (see other thread).

I was looking at the Humax boxes, specifically the 300GB HD version although i've read some bad reviews so may wait a while for the hardware to improve.

I had a quick Google and found nothing specific, a few problems with someone's dodgy cabling and issues with certain boxes - do you have any more info on the issue?

well I have just got back from the shops, with a goodmans model, which to my dismay is identical to the bush model. The casing/facia is different but the remote and rear panel are identical.

Guess what....

This one dosent even work at all, at least I had a few days use out of the bush one. This one just goes staight into power-cycle mania.

well thats me thouroughly angered:mad: I am going to take this back later today for a refund, then I am going to go buy a pinnacle network player. Ive had it with live broadcasts....it's bit torrent all the way for me from now on.
