For instance, CSGO black screen startup issue with freesync enabled
i disable it and it works, so seems there is a issue with this game, you would think there wouldnt be a issue with this game.

---

Tombraider - even though freesync seems to be working
i disabled vsync in CCC and enabled freesync selecting native @90hz and it shows its working but and smooth but i can see places if i move fast from left to right that there is screen tairing and this should clearly not be happening.

-

here is a question also about vsync should it be disabled off for everything or on for everything ???? if i enable it my frames stay @90hz and in tombraider there is no tairing anymore and very silk smooth does this mean im using normal vsync or freesync or does freesync work with vsync enabled ? very confused lol

got it ;)

so for csgo, = disable freesync and run @144hz

and for tombraider limit frames to 90hz and then run it :)

I haven't tried freesync with CS:GO, but I would imagine that for any twitch shooter you are best to turn it off.

And don't forget, you are running your monitor outside of manufacturer specifications. So that might be affecting it too. The scaler might not be able to handle the freesync ranges that you are using.

I will check cs:go tomorrow and see does it black screen on me.

The monitor is fine, running it @3840x2160 as i did a frame skipping test to detect overclocking anomalies and everything is fine no frames skipping at all.

i havent changed the freesync ranges

35-90 is what im currently using with extra resolution added 3840x2160 4k

both native and 4k resolutions work with freesync on the games that work that is.

csgo wont work no matter what i do be it leave everything default and run the game with freesync disabled works perfectly @144hz in native and 60hz in 4k
but as soon as i engage freesync csgo black screens on startup i hear the sound just no picture but as soon as i disable freesync it works and this is running the monitor completely default unaltered.

now it does seem strange and the games that i have other problems with are only a problem if the game goes over 90hz or under 35hz then tairing reappears but if i limit those games @90hz then they work perfectly or limit them to 60hz @4k resolution and it works perfectly.

but there are some games that are problematic with freesync and cause flickering under the crimson drivers in the release notes it does say there are issues with freesync and cause flickering or weird behaviour... my understanding is though that freesync on this monitor is perfectly fine @35-90 or 57-144 but to get those to work you have to limit the frames or the highest freesync inbound hz being 90 @native or 144 @3840x2160

apart from the niggles those games that do work after doing the correct limiting work perfect.... ;) i still think crimson needs more optimising for freesync imho.

As I suspected, there isn't an issue with the CS:GO or Freesync. I just tried the game and have no black screens when playing the game. It plays perfectly.

I have the same monitor as you and hooked up to an R9 290. So the issue is with whatever modifications you have made to the driver to get the new freesync ranges.

Also just a word about Freesync. If you go above or below the range then tearing returns. That's why the option is there to enable or disable vsync when framerate goes outside the range.

The latest drives have two things that try to tackle this problem. First AMD have introduced the frame rate target control, which is basically a frame rate limiter so stops you going outside your freesync range on the high side.

On the low side they introduced Low Frame Rate Compensation. It smoothes out frame rates when it goes under the freesync range. It works very well, but there is one problem with it, and that is that it only works on monitors where the maximum (freesync)refresh rate is at least 2.5 times higher than the minimum.

For example, our monitor, the MG279Q, it works with Low Frame Rate Compensation because 2.5 by 35 is 87.5 which is lower than the 90hz maximum refresh of Freesync on this monitor.

Just a Q cause its strange even with no modifications im still getting black screen on CSGO.
its not even getting into the game or menu just stays black when i start it up under freesync only even with no modifications.

are you using windows 10 x64 or windows 7 ?

EDIT :

FIXED :) some reason why freesync was not working was cause hz was not set properly for csgo.
i had to manually add a launch shortcut with correct resolution and refresh then it works perfect :D
