Freesync on Samsung TV with Nvidia cards

I'm having some trouble with resolution due to HDMI cable restrictions, so I'm settled on 1920*1080 120Hz for the time being. What Freesync mode should I be using, basic or ultimate?

Ultimate is something like 48-120 and basic is around 80-120.

I forget exact numbers.

I would go for ultimate.

Also 1440p 120hz is well within limits of hdmi. If picture is cutting out upgrade the cable they are only about £10 for a decent one.

If I set 2560*1440 in the Windows Display properties, then it shows as 3840*2160 in advanced display properties and also in the Radeon software.

Is there any other place to change the resolution, like I could in the Nvidia Control Panel?

Edit: I got it going after some tinkering, set at 2560*1440 120Hz. I'll get some fiddling done with under volting etc later.:)

Sorry to revive a relatively old thread, but I saw this discussion and I wanted to update you all on the latest developments regarding this TV and Freesync over HDMI.

Samsung recently released a few new firmware updates and now...FINALLY...Freesync works over HDMI with Nvidia's Gsync. I have tested it myself on my RTX 2070 and it works perfectly. As I understand, Freesync will ONLY work with Nvidia cards from the Turing platform and later.

There has been quite a few asking about this recently with your TV, so that's good to know freesync/gsync is working now.

I have the q8dn from the same year and freesync/gsync has been working flawlessly ever since I got my 3080 3 months ago. Worth noting I have to use freesync premium setting on the TV the standard freesync setting doesn't work but premium is the better one anyway.

Those of us using the RU8000 must also use Freesync Ultimate as well especially if you want to play games @ 120 Hz in HDR.

Old thread I know, but since upgrading from a rtx 4070ti when vrr worked fine on my Samsung Q80T going to a rtx 5070ti vrr no longer works, even when " enable settings for the selected display model" is checked in control panel.
Anyone know of a possible fix?

Poke around with CRU (Custom Resolution Utility). You can add a Freesync/VRR range and see how it does (edit the HDMI 2.1 section). Been messing around with it a few days ago myself, actually had a "funny" interaction. Finally decided to try and fix the otherwise not working VRR + HDR on my TV, turns out the POS (thanks to AMD) does Freesync Premium Pro but is borked and limits the display in HDR to 400 nits peak (out of the usual 1000), turns out the fix is to remove the Freesync range then re-add it, because that way it becomes just Freesync Premium, and voila it works. From what I've seen lots of people that have issues with TVs + Freesync on Nvidia usually fix it through CRU too. 5070 Ti is a bit too new & rare for enough people to run into the same troubles but keep an eye out on topics from avsforums & rtings reviews comments section, could get lucky and someone'll have had the same issue.

Disconnecting a HDMI device can reset settings on the TV. Go back into External Device Manager and Game Mode Settings and make sure it's still on. Make sure Input Signal Plus is still turned on. It's pretty annoying. If I ever need to disconnect the PC, I turn the TV off at the wall first.
