Hi.

I'm really struggling re getting a 144Hz screen now for an Nvidia setup or getting a 60Hz screen with Freesync with a view to getting a 480/580 at year end.

Is Freesync that good...

If I can maintain 144 frames then this would be better with working vsync no?

Confused

144Hz Freesync screens are really expensive.

144Hz screens are priced comparably with Freesync 60Hz screens but to have both is out of my price range at the moment.

So I figure if all Freesync is doing is kinda what vsync does then I will get the 144Hz monitor...

I do not know much about Freesync which is probably obvious - apologies!

Thanks both, that's crystal now.

I have been using a Del 22 inch UltraSharp 2209wa for what seems like forever now. Time for a change, it will make a nice second screen :)

Going to give it a little more consideration but will most likely grab that Acer XF240H...

Ive been thinking of a screen update, have a R9 390 8gig with a old Samsung SyncMaster T220 atm, is the Acer you picked up a good upgrade ?
Hi.

The screen was due Monday but actually arrived yesterday. So I have had a play with the settings etc to try and get a nice image. The colours seemed a little washed out compared to the IPS panel but this was to be expected.

The difference is marginal after I have played with the settings and I am pleased with the picture quality. The build quality is fantastic. One thing that I didn't know it had was it the capacity to charge USB devices whilst it's off which is nice. IE connect your mobile at the end of the day etc. Handy USB hub tbh for controllers or whatever.

I see you had a 22" screen also previous to me. I thought the new screen at 27" maybe a little big at first but now I think this is the perfect size given how close I sit to my desk which is pretty close, maybe 3/4 of a metre...

Okay onto the more exciting stuff, the frame rate!

Instantly when Windows 10 boots and you press a key and the password box scrolls down to the centre of the screen. You can see how much smoother it is already. Moving windows around is again so much smoother, it lovely. It's that nice a difference I can only see 144Hz+ screens being the norm sooner or later...

I was going to hold off giving a recommendation after I had it for a little while longer, IE play some games and well more general use really. However, I have just fired up Counterstrike GO which was fluctuating between 120 - 150 frames according to the Steam overlay and it looks incredible!!!

The wow factor I just had playing CSGO was there and this is using an NVIDIA 960 4GB card, IE no Freesync, and no tearing either for that matter (a 20 min play, nothing further).

I miss the colours a little of the IPS, a little...

But do I recommend the screen? Yes and without hesitation.

Hope that helps :)
