So is FreeSync basically the same as G-sync but for AMD GPUS?

I assume that monitors with Freesync would be a far below price compared to Gsync monitors since brand popularity..right?

it is similar but there are differences
pricing hasn't been released, but both sets of monitors are "premium" so none of them are particularly cheap

there could well be price drops on gsync monitors if freesync ones start selling well though

There seems to be differences even on a per monitor basis for freesync, e.g. one of them only supports 40-60hz, which is a pretty limited range

Best to wait for reviews before buying

Considering that LinusTechtips reported from CES 2015 that AMD will have 12 freesync monitors in its lineup this year i would say they are doing a solid effort trying to be competitive with G-Sync.

That is apparently a panel limitation and not a freesync one.. So i wonder if OCing the panel to like 70+hz will enable freesync to be 40-70 variable?

Freesync itself supports as low as 9 fps.

there is no freesync monitor that supports 9fps, the minimum is 30 and some only support 40, the random list on the AMD FAQ is meaningless

nvidia have stated that gsync supports whatever the panel supports, even if that is 1fps, though the fact is there is no panel in existence that supports that
