I am new to freeview and wish to know if it is OK to simply use a splitter to distribute the signal to one other room as with a traditional signal,

I will only require 2 feeds from the aerial.

Is this sufficient for 2 freeview STB's?

An installer told me I needed a "distribution unit" to split the signal?

Will all depend how good the signal is tbh.
I manage to split it with a normal two-way 'y' splitter, so if your signal is OK then yes, it will work.

You need a 2 way splitter / booster (I say booster, because the ones we install in work have built in boosters)...

Cost about £7.50 from a number of good suppliers :)

A "Y" splitter is what's called a resistive splitter and is not a very good way to split a signal.

An inductive splitter is a much better idea.

As long as your signal is decent you will not need any sort of amplifier/booster.
