gunna pick one up tomorrow in town for the mrs, anything to look out for. I see there is various makes/models from £24.99 upwards.

Any features a must have? Any makes to avoid?

thanks in advance

I've found any with the Goodmans chips to be good. Look for the GDB3 models. Their around that price and the boxes are very fast. Mine also had audio connetors on it to plug into my stereo.

well i can tell you that the Alba one that i got is the worst peice of home entertainment equipment in terms of quality that i have ever owned.

it crashes every now and then

the response from pressing the button on the remote is painfully slow

some times you press one button and it does something completely different

and where it shows the tv programs on the Epg there is no way of showing the entire title so you often get half a title, which is annoying

that said it cost £25 so i guess you get what you pay for

in other words- spend more and get another make!!!

Its worth paying extra really, having lived with a cheap box and a £100 (A year ago now) Sony box the Sony is so much nicer, when you press a button on the remote the box responds! And the buttons feel like real buttons

Digilogic/Durabrand boxes are quite good. They are fast (software is made in Bristol I believe) and they are made in Turkey. I believe the goodmans boxes are internally the same but may have a buggy software version.

Other than that I would get a Sony box as I don't think anything inbetween is better than the digilogics.
