Hi guys,

I wonder if you can help me. My brother in law has purchased a DVDrecorder, but is experiencing some trouble. I went round earlier but I couldn't figure out the problem.

Basically, it goes freeview TVout scart -> DVDr Scart in. However, the picture is smeary and black and white. The cable can handle RGB, but I don't think this is the issue as setting the freeview output to CVBS doesn't change the problem. I then tried connecting the other scart socket from the freeview box but nothing changes.

I then tried another component to check the scart in wasn't dodgy, fine picture. So he decided he needed another box for the bedroom so purchased a different box and tried that. Still the same. Although, if he uses a scart -> phono and plus it in via composite (eurgh) at the front, it's fine. Any ideas?

See, it's strange. As it doesn't matter whether he selects RGB or CVBS, neither are good enough. The DVDr is set to PAL as is the freeview. The freeview box does not trasmit a signal over RF, it merely acts as a loop through for the aerial, sadly.

The dvdr should also have the options RGB or CVBS ,have you tried changing these or just on the freeview?

Both buddy. It's very weird. If all else fails I'll try a different dvdr/hdd recorder I have at home. If that doesn't work, we'll give up!
