Quick question...Has anyone any idea on when/if we will see HD Freeview Boxes coming out?

edit//

Oops, probably wrong forum. Mods, feel free to move to more suitable one. :o

There is highdef freeview but it's DVB-S rather than DVB-T so you need a satellite dish, to be honest you can pickup a satellite dish for next to nothing these days so all yo need is a decent DVB-S box (that will do highdef so I think it needs to be DVB2 compat.)

They're already doing HD Freeview test broadcasts from the Crystal Palace transmitter, including all the World Cup games apparently!

You can't receive these with a standard DVB-T receiver however, but I believe there are PCI cards available which can decode the signals.

OK, cheers guys. I think i'll just get a bog-standard £30 one for the near future.

Does anyone have experience of the cheap £27.99 Durabrand boxes from Asda that stand upright?

I have one of the durabrand boxes, doesn't stand upright though. Quick and simple interface, never freezes, always quick to navigate and good picture quality. Bought one as a stop gap to replace my pace dvb box, but decided to stick with it as PQ is better.

I would have got a Sagem from Argos but ive had a few now and they keep freezing/losing sound.

It must be a new Duraband model in Asda as they had previously had ones that didn't stand upright.

The problem with HD over freeview is the pure amount of bandwidth it takes up. The BBC are having real problems at the moment as on HD channel takes up about 4 others.

Essentially, it's probably identical inside to the one I've got. Possibly. I know a few people who have bought other various cheap brands only for it to have an identical remote and same planner etc.

OK, i've bitten the bullet and bought another one. After all, the price tag of £19.99 (were £27.99) couldn't be sniffed at. I'll put up with freezing now and then.

The model i got is the ITD58G. Down sides are that it only has 1 scart and doesn't have 7 day EPG.

just a word, i've managed to land on the freeview HD trial and the picture quality is stunning, and would love them to roll it out over the whole network, although it seems like they arent getting the most out of it at the moment with 4 and 5 hardly screening anything in HD and 1 and 3 mainly just screening football/wimbledon in HD,

The best thing about highdef footie is seeing Alan Hanson "made up" for SD TV, he is quite evidently wearing lipstick :)

The £28 Tesco Digilogic boxes rarely, if ever freeze or crash. I would spend the extra £8 and get one of these.
