Decided to ditch sky plus as the only channel we watch that isn't on freeview is Sky one. (May as well rent the shows on dvd).

But my wife likes the functions of Sky Plus

Anyone use or know of a decent freeview recorder that lets you tape one channel and record another with a planner and maybe series link features?

Also If I buy more than one recorder for another tv can I then record two different channels? If that makes sense?

The smaller the freeview box the better.

Thanks

You can get as many freeview recorders as you like. If your connecting more than one to the same aerial you can get a splitter that boosts the signal.

I would expect there to be recorders that can record 2 or more channels at once anyway.

Get a Topfield. Got mine about a year ago and have not looked back since. Does all you want and more + you can connect to PC via USB and download new programs (TAP's) onto it as well as take the recordings off, encode to MPEG and burn to DVD's

Looks good sadly it's a bit bigger than the gap I have left in my unit. I have one shelf left thats only 10 inches deep. So I need quite a small one :(

Ive got a digifusion unit. Mine was £90 from the catologue shop.

They do single or twin tuner units so with the twin tuner unit you can record 2 channels at once.

Ive got the single tuner version and ive had it for a year with no problems whatsover.

I've got 4 of the £90 Digifusions and my family love them.
Theres one in the kitchen, one in the bedroom and one each in the girls rooms.
I'm pretty sure the twin tuner version can't record two channels at the same time only record one and watch one.
Topfield is the dogs though.

Thanks guys whats the model number? FVRT 100? The depth on that is 10 inches so would suit me. Can you series link stuff on these recorders? Ala my wife setting it up to always record Hollyoaks  and other such soaps.

I think it is the FVRT100.
I don't know if you can link stuff but it is very easy to programme - I've got 3 women in the house and they all can do it.
You press the GUIDE button and a nice EPG comes up, you scroll to the program you want and press the RED button.

It is, the only thing that annoys me slightly is that if you get low on space it automatically deletes recordings without telling you.

If theres something you dont want to lose make sure you press the green button to mark it for saving

A friend has a Humax one and is very happy with it...

Humax are very good. My parents bought a cheap recorder which broke after a few months, when looking for a replacement a lot of people recommended either Humax or Topfield. Topfield are more expensive but meant to be much better.

You can also use plug-ins on the TopField boxes - http://www.toppy.org.uk/downloads/taps.php?tc=all which allows you to customise them to however you like :).
