Freeview through your tft

This diagram is for merging the sync, SCART needs a merged (composite) sync signal.
You should be able to see from the direction of the diodes that they are merging the sync.

Yeah, but that's the problem. He wants to plug his Freeview box in to his VGA monitor, so it needs to go RGB Scart -> VGA, not VGA -> RGB Scart (which is what that circuit is for)

If you wanted to plug a PC in to a TV using RGB Scart then that circuit is ideal, but not for the other way round.

Ooops, fair nuff, easy fix though (I told you i had lack of practice in electronics recently, lol). Although it doesn't sound much like he's going to go for the DIY route now anyway, so i'll stop bothering people.

will the quality of the picture using one of those scart to vga syncblaster's be good? or will there be some loss in the signal quality.

Quite a few higher end monitors come with composite video inputs on them, which would presumably make hooking up a sky/freeview box to it easy. Obviously this isn't any good if you already have a monitor without these inputs.

If you haven't got an aversion to using the TV facilities through a PC then the WinFast DTV Dongle USB2.0 is worth it's weight in gold and can be had stupidly cheap.

I have had multiple TV cards, both PCI and USB-based and have stuck with USB ones cince the Twinhan magicbox I got over a year ago or so. I moved up to the Leadtek dongle a few months ago and haven't looked back. No messing around with an internal card, checking your mobo manual to make sure you have it in the optimal slot etc (if you are a fusspot on irq sharing etc like me). Just plug it in, download the latest drivers and software from leadtek, sit back and enjoy. Great picture quality, great upscaling and lots of features too, yet simple to use.

Im not planning on hooking it upto a pc though, and wouldnt want to...Means ill have to have the pc on all the time i want to watch the tv, if i was going to do this i would build a silent media centre and hook upto a monitor.
