I think this gets placed here, not sure.

I am looking at getting a Dell 2007wfp and it has S-video in, and basically i wanted to know if theres any reasonably priced freeview boxes that have Svideo out and audio out, just the model or if its not a competitor a link?

And i was wondering if i could plug the audio out, into my sound card and then have the sound coming through my pc speakers?

thanks in advance, sukh

You should be able to get a cable that goes from scart to s-video and two phono leads for the audio.

Should work with any freeview box then :)

It would, but from what i hear from everyone is that TV cards always cause problems. They cause hardware conflicts, and the software is buggy and bloated and never works as its supposed to. Ive not heard of one card that works as its supposed to and doesnt install a bunch of bloated crap on the pc. I would prefer a tv card because i could use it as a PVR.

Love to know where you got that lot from, am using two Terratec 2400i's (four tuners) in my work machine running with GBPVR with no slowdown/hardware conflicts or other problems. GBPVR is set up to record about thirty different series at the moment and simply gets on with it

The only problem I have at the moment is we have some bloomin' big seagulls who are slowly redirecting our arial downwards, so signal quality is deteriorating  (going on TV also, so not a problem with the 2400i's)

LOL at the seagulls!

The software that comes with the cards does usually suck.
But there are plenty of good alternatives. Either XP or Vista Media centre are good.

GBPVR and MediaPortal are both freeware\open source and do the job very well too.

How much am i looking at for one of the Terratecs? And i kinda like the idea of having a remote control, even though its not essential as i usually sit at my pc, just novelty.
And can i run "xp media" without having to switch to XP MCE as i already have XP pro license.

Terratecs, from Here

or, look around and you can get the same (retail pack with remote) for £65

The HomeCinema software isn't bad - just when I got my first one it was baaaad. It supports multiple tuners as long as they are terratec ones (thus can mix and match, get a single tuner and then get a double later) - or use GBPVR, lets you use as many tuners as you like from whatever manufacturer you like. You can watch DVDs and any media you have a codec installed for

Andre hook up a high voltage current to your aerial (with everything else unplugged from it of course) and leave it overnight. Hopefully by the morning you should have a nice supply of toasted seagulls for your breakfast.

That'll bring the crows/rooks in :( and some of them are bigger  anyway, the car is parked below and they will cause some damage hitting it

Problem is, it's a six foot long arial, so plenty for them all to sit (missing h as well) on - get up to 4 at a time of the loveable pests, and when they take off all hell breaks loose as the end bounces up and down (more down than up nowadays)

Least it's an excuse to get someone else to climb on the roof :D

In all seriousness, do the Terratec do Analogue and Digital? Because i dno if i get digital whilst at uni, as in the aerial being good enough to get freeview.

Seeing as no one else has asked...why on earth would you need 4 tuners?

Just hope an animal right activist doesn't stumble on this thread lol

Hi, i just installed a Leadtek DTV1000t into my daughter PC and it has been great. It digital only i think. If you are worried about whether you will receive digital at uni you could always input the post code here to check what possible signal coverage there is. If you are in a strong area the chances are you would pick up a decent amount of channels on even an average ariel setup.

Apologies OP, Last OT comment:

Four tuners because neither of us watch TV live anymore, so there are times when programmes conflict (hence most people like two tuners)

So the programmes that are recorded normally all end up being on at the same time, and not neccessarily at a time when they can be watched (e.g. yesterday there was Midsomer Murders, Paper Crafting(QVC), Tales of the Unexpected and Through the Keyhole. Please no comment about content, these are mainly for Mrs. A.)

And then - there was nothing else new/worthwhile for the rest of the day (cept Sea of Souls) - so there is the day's viewing, using four different channels :p
