Freeware DVD ripper

I've been thinking about storing some of my DVD collection digitally.

Can anyone recommend a decent freeware DVD ripper please that will do the job?

makemkv. It rips at original quality so the resulting mkv files can be quite large. If you want to save space, you can compress the mkv files with handbrake.

Or just rip straight with Handbrake.

I didn't realise handbrake could bypass the copy protection??

For most stuff it can, I've had a few DVDs that didn't work.
