Freeze and rest

Hi,

PC froze on me last night twice once playing BLOPS 3 and again with Fallout 4.

Total freeze and sound buzzing nothing would get me out the game so I had to reset.

Upon the second reset the BIOS screen had an error - CPU over-temperature

I then changed the fan settings back to stock for gaming mode and reset.

Upon the computer starting again another BIOS error - CPU overclock failed this baffled me as I have never tried to OC yet and have stayed well away from the OC settings.

The only thing I can think of is possibly the thermal paste? The PC has been left on overnight for a few days this week - That's the most taxing thing it has done to get hot over time.

My room does get excessively hot at times and my PS4 was on last night as well adding to the room temps.

Its a new build and has been fine since being built early Jan.

Anyone have any ideas or should I just bite the bullet and get some new paste applied?

Edit - Could a PSU cause random issues like this? I have new 850 coming tomorrow to replace the current one I am using as I think its a bit long in the tooth.

Use something like msi afterburner to check the temperatures plus you could manually feel how warm the cpu cooler is . In case you have a faulty temperature sensor. I would also reset your Cmos to reset at hardware settings to default.

Thanks I will try resting Cmos tonight.

Faulty temp sensor do-sent sound good - Would that require a new board?

Pretty sure it would , but at a guess i would say it is highly unlikely to be that.

Thanks I have got a new PSU and am waiting on a new hard disk coming so going to give it the once over tomorrow or Friday night.

I will run it after fitting the new bits and if I get it again I will be taking the cooler off and re-applying the thermal paste.

I have set up a program to show me my voltages and temps at startup so will have plenty info to report back with if anything goes wrong.
