Hi there,

I've bought a Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 pro for my system. I have found that with the stock cooler the idle temps were 44C but with the AC Freezer 64 installed, the temp shoots up to 63C (and thats just in the BIOS) and stays there.

This makes the chassis fan go mental as it tries to compensate so the system ends up being more noisy than before !

I used some different cooling paste rather than the stuff that was on the AC Freezer 64 (thermalright Chill factor)

Is there anything anyone can suggest that I can try ?

Its making me wish I'd just stuck with the stock cooler now !

Thanks

Are you sure you have the fan pulling the air through in the same direction as the rest of your fans & not conflicting with your air flow ?

I have a chassis fan at the back, which the freezer 64 is pointing at so the hot air (although I can't feel a lot of airflow through the HS) is sucked out of the case. I don't have any cool air being pulled in the front. This didn't seem to be a problem with the sock fan though.

Bloody things is up to 68C now. Did think it might be a problem with the M/B as the RPM for the fan wasn't being detected for a while. Had a look for some BIOS updates but the M/B is from a Compaq so any updates are few and far between.

Any more suggestions ?

The M/B is a MS-7184 V1.0

Well i cut the front of my case open & slotted in two 80's, they suck air in the front, then my 64 pushes it through the heatsink & then i have a 120 exhausting it out the back. The perfect air flow in my opinion.

I would have a go at reseating it. The last one i fitted was a complete pig. If you only have the single fan in your case that may be contributing to it as well.

OK, just reseated it, cleaned of the compound from both the CPU and HS and put new compound on.

The RPM for the CPU fan is only about 900RPM, even though the temp is 68.

Does it matter than the CPU fan connector on the M/B is only a 3 pin and the Freezer 64 is a 4 pin connector ?

The HS is getting warm so it is doing its job I think, but maybe I need to speed the fan up a bit.

Aren't PCs great

Thanks

Just to close the issue, I've put the stock cooler back on and although the temps are higher than they were (55C at idle) the system is stable now without the fans going crazy.

Guess I'll have to have a little think about what the problem is with the Freezer 64 !

Thanks
