Recently switched the stock cooler on my amd 3700 to the arctic freezer 64 pro, i was told it would be quieter but it sounds a lot louder to me, which sucks as im trying to get a this thing to be as quiet as possible without using watercooling, any ideas?

Make sure you have changed the bios to allow it to run at less than 100%. My freezer is a lot quieter (and cooler) than the stock cooler.

Use speedfan and run at 70%, they have a sort of whining noise at full speed which completely goes without losing much cooling performance.

sorry for being thick but iv tried using speedfan n the fan doesnt slow, looked in the bios and there is no option for fans

your MB almost certainly has a bios setting to enable the hsf to run at the optimum speed - usually bout 800-1000 RPM on idle. On my A8N-SLi Del its 'Q-fan' - set it to enabled. What is your MB?

Road Runner, i was told that you can't overclock at cpu when using " Cool and Quiet ".

Please correct me if im wrong but it changes the cpu speed depending on CPU Work load etc..

mine is near silent... its max speed is 2000 rpm so running at 100% should still be quieter than the 4000rpm of the stock HSF.

RMA it, somethings wrong.

I had one of those and mine was loud too! I got rid of it and bought an XP-12O with a Nexus 120mm fan. Superb!!

Hmm im thinking of Switching from my Arctic 64 Pro to the thermaltake

But i dont have a clue how to fit one lol
