Freezer 7 Pro and Q6600?

TJunction is 100 on these CPU's so you have plenty of headroom.

I like to keep mine under 70 degrees to be honest just to be on the safe side.

Temps so far using core temp and running at idle on stock volts and speed. I think its a good start and tells me at least the cooler has been properly fitted and I have done ok with the thermal paste. Temps coming down a little too compared to a few hours ago.

Q6600 with AC7 Pro

Core 0 = 23
Core 1 = 25
Core 2 = 22
Core 3 = 22

Blimey you guys with your AC7 Pros are getting some good temps.

My Q6600 has a vid of 1.2625 and I'm running it at 3Ghz, for me my load temps .are 63,63,60,60 and that's with a Thermalright ultra 120A HSF. I've just replaced the rear standard Adda fan for a Yate Loon which I run via a temp sensor circuitry to keep the noise down and that helped in knocking 4 degrees off the load temps but if I removed the side panel of the case the temps drop all the way down to 53. Pity my case only has space for a rear 80mm fan :(

Above^ is the only cooler within same price bracket which outperforms Freezer Pro 7 in tests I’ve seen on various review sites. So i used one based on back of reviews, and it’s very tidy bit of kit, E2200 at 3.2Ghz and as I recall SP2004 tests under 55c with idle temps high 20's, fan was only on half speed and was not audible over three 120mm, 1200rpm quiet case fans.

Either cooler will serve you well considering the price.

I am convinced what is helping my temps to be very low is my Akasa Mirage, and my two Sharkoon eagle 2000 120mm fans. That combination is surely making a massive contribution to low temps. :)

Finally fitted mine on the G0 6600 last night and the difference is quite pronounced between it and the stock cooler. At stock on the stock cooler the temps were 38/68.

I'm sitting at 3Ghz now and idle = 31, load = 51

I'm well disappointed though in how tricky it was to fit. In principle it seems easy and the installation instructions are clear, however the plastic lugs do not hold the cooler down well enough in my opinion and too often the lugs from the opposite side would "ping" up of their own accord whilst I was trying to fit it!

After about 20 mins of cursing the thing I finally got it to stay in place with all four lugs properly attached. I don't have a massive amount of confidence in that push pin design though. As a comparison the Zalman fitments for the 9500 were excellent, even though it required the tray to be removed.

Here's hoping the freezer 7 stays in place !!!

It did the same to me, weren't pushing the pins down then twisting them were you as the instructions say? as that releases them lol.

Once they are in though they do a decent enough job tbh.

Yep mine too was a real pain to seat properly. I had one pin that would not quite push in. I took me about 4 goes to get the thing to go in. Each time I had to remove and replace the thermal paste.

Update on temps, I have ran Prime95 on the torture test for 8 hours and passed with ease. Temps never went over 37°C on load during testing. Thats on stock vaults and stock speed. Quite pleased with that. :)

Tom's recommends Zalman 9700

It's what i've ordered. Price isn't an issue for such an important component, and this looks great, comes with first class thermal compound, is quiet (unless turned upto 100%, but so do all fans at that) and cools extremely well. It is now on Tom's hardware Q6600 reference machine and i kinda trust them to know a little.

If its anything like my 9500 I had on my old socket 939 it will do a great job. However its expensive and I didn't want to fork out that much. I paid £11.69 for my AF7 pro and for that it represents excellent vfm.

hehehe thats what it was then. Yes I was twisting. I though the twisting secured it in place :o

Took me like an hour to secure my P4 in place with the stock cooler, wouldn't sit and a leg would pop out just as you put another in, even when they were all in the odd leg would still wobble, came loose easy, in the end i jsut said sod it and made do with 90C for 2 years :D

My bios said, and probably still does (even after flashing), my CPU under load reached 120C..don't think so, i never trust temp readings since lol.

Currently at 3.2Ghz 400x8 with 1.325v had to slacken ram timings off a little to 5-5-5-23 but temps are decent. Its prime stable and temps on load are 51c/54c

Finally got my new PC to the stage where I can switch it on and go into the motherboard settings and check the cpu and fan temps. Next thing is to install an OS.

At stock speeds my Q6600 Quad core is at 43/44 degrees with the freezer pro installed and if I remember rightly the motherboard is at 33 degrees

Just like to check that its installed ok
Looking at my pc from the side it looks like:

=============== Top of Case ====================
POWER SUPPLY FAN
|
v

F
A <----------------------- air flow
N Freezer Pro
1 (grill on left, fan on right)
F
A
N
2

The case also has a small side fan set up to suck air into the case.
The freezer pro blows air through the grills which is then blown out of the back of the case by the two fans. The power supply fan is on the Corsair HX520

I really should get a photo done!

that looks correct to me.

Get windows installed and run Orthos on all four cores and then report your load temps.
