Freezer has lots of ice in it - whats going on?

frost free freezers work like this.

1 moist air freezes behind the shroud
2 behind the shroud heats up every so often
3 causing the frosty stuff to melt and run out a small hole into a collection plate at the rear of the fridge above the compressor
4 the heat from the compressor heats the collection plate causing the water to evaporate.

5 your freezer stays frost free and never needs to be defrosted/scraped by you.

does the ice collect at the bottom of your fridge almost like a frozen waterfall? because that means the heating mechanism that defrosts your freezer is working but the water cant find a way out

if yes try

turning your freezer off and leaving it off for 12-24 hours so all the ice can melt , the tube the water runs down has probably frozen so the water cant escape.

As above, defrost it and make sure all the rubber seals are clean. Then just make sure you close the freezer door properly. For example, on mine, if you slam it, it stays slightly open and then causes issues.

A "frozen waterfall" with loads of ice in the bottom is spot on in my case. I think I'll empty the fridge (i.e., eat the contents) and leave it switched off for a couple of days later this week. Cheers

i know all this from it happening to our freezer.

the first time i left my freezer off with the door open over night didnt fix it...

so i left it for a full 24hours the next time and all has been perfect since.

just stick as much frozen stuff as you can inside the fridge where it should stay mostly frozen aslong as you pack it all together nice and tight
