Hi guys, set up my new rig today, things are getting there, slowly...

Just wondering about the fan on the Pro 7.

It often starts, then stops, then starts and wash rinse repeat...

Is this supposed to happen? Is the fan getting enough power?

Thanks

Can you post your system specs please. Might be something to do with the way the fan is being contorled by the motherboard. I had the same sort of problem when i first built mine.

Lets see...

Core Duo 6600 with Freezer Pro 7
Gigabyte DS3 Mobo
2 Gig 6400 memory
8800 GTS
Corsair 520 W
X-fi Soundcard

:)

It should be controlled via PWM, this means that the fan's speed is nearly infinitely variable. For how long does it stop when it stops? Though it shouldn't really get that slow it can get very slow.

It seems to be the norm on a DS3.

Fan doesn't start at all until the board thinks it is necessary and then it controls it as it sees fit.

In the BIOS, under PC Health, if you set the CPU Smart fan control method to Legacy and the Smart fan control mode to PWM, then the fan will always run but at a reasonably low, quiet speed (1080RPM, or there abouts).
