Freezer trick - SUCCESS!

Even this is a iffy proposition. PCB has to be literally same batch, same firmware to have even a chance. Even then, since the SMART allocation and data is from another drive, it might not work.

Not necessarily, i've had a pcb that cooked its self, having replaced the pcb with another but slightly different (same hard drive model though) the drive worked fine, in fact it still works to this day :)
Obviously i'm not saying its going to be the case every time but i wouldnt be put off trying with a different board if thats all you can get your hands on.
 
Quick question. Just put in a HDD i've not used in ages that's been buggerd. It's not been dropped or anything and Windows recognizes it but when I double click on it, it freezes the My Computer part of Windows. Will this freeze trick work on it?
