It randomly freezes even on the dashboard, i thought it might have something to do with the hard drive but does it without one, i used an xclamp kit from an old xbox but that didn't help, is there anything i can do about it?

I had one that did this too, except mine forze as it started rendering anything 3d. It'd be fine in the dashboard or game menus though.

I gave up and bought a new one. Does yours have any kind of warranty left on it?

No that's why im wondering if i can try anything, i might let it over heat if that would help, don't know if it may be related to the red ring issue?

Done hundreds myself too, and the oven bake method works just as well as using a heatgun. Also, if he does it before it actually goes RROD it will last longer, if he does it right it's not a given that it will come back quickly.

So this is a sign rrod might happen?

I'll try the heatgun then, thanks.

Yes, it's a definite sign that RROD is around the corner. If you do the heatgun/oven bake and do the x-clamp fix it will put stop the freezing and put RROD off for anything from a few weeks to 12+ months.

It'll help yeah, because it's less stressed. If I were you though I would PX it for a slim.

While those slims look good im done with the 360 if i don't get these working, if i can make them last as a media device at least i'll get something out of them, it seems so silly a bit of bad solder can make perfectly fine hardware to go to waste.

Ok im going to give this a go, i got a heat gun but it only does 500c with no lower setting, is this ok?

Also i looked on youtube and theres a few videos, what's the best way, heating both sides or just the one, how long should i do it for and how close to the board?

Well i did it, the one that was freezing now shows rrod, the one that was rrod now works, doubt it will last, might do it one more time when it fails but to be honest i don't care, im done with consoles, games cost too much and microsoft expect us to pay for the privileged (how nice of them) to play and host multiplayer games.
