Hey everyone, so I got my hands on a GTX 1080 from a family friend and put paired it up with a 2600X and 16gb 3200mhz, I'll list full specs further down. Gaming on it is pretty good apart from dropping from 80-90 fps in warzone (1080p) to under 20 for a few second then back up to my regular fps or freezing for a few seconds every little while. Happens in warzone, BF V, insurgency.

Things I've tried, I've check all the ram is seated proberly and in the right sockets. Enabled XMP which hasn't really worked. Bios shows 3200mhz and 1.35v but when I check CPU-Z it's showing 1064mhz. Also checked task manager and that's showing as the standard 2133mhz but also showing that 8GB is hardware reserved. I've updated the bios checked all components are seated correctly and kept an eye on CPU and GPU percentages along with temps.

CPU percentage never gets above 65% and hovers around 53C while gaming

Haven't seen the GPU max out at 100% yet and hottest it gets in the low to mid 70's.

Specs:

Ryzen 2600x 3.60Ghz - 4.20Ghz (stock cooler for now)
Gigabyte Aorus B450 elite
EVGA GTX 1080 SC
16Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200mhz @ C16
Aerocool 500W psu

Any insight as to what could be causing this? Driving me bonkers

That PSU sounds like garbage.

Also you should take a note of time of problems and check Event Viewer and Reliability Monitor for errors at those times.

Not gonna argue with you on that it is. Planning on getting a new PSU in the next few days.

Ouch! I'd only say the same as the above, PSU looks like a weak point.
I'd also run MSI AB and see if you're getting bottlenecked and check on CPU load.

Thanks for the reply,

Might be a silly question but how would i check if i'm getting bottlenecked through AB?

Two questions:

Are you running your game from a SSD?

Is there anything going on in the background? Like a virus-checker.

No AV software installed. Only background app that would be running is geforce experience. Most games are on mechanical hard drives. I'll move a game that's on a hard drive over to an SSD and see if the problem persists

Oh! Could be. Windows av runs all the time pretty much no matter what you do and if you are playing online it can cause havoc when you download new textures and so on while playing. Best thing to do is go to the av exceptions and put all your game folders in there to stop windows scanning everything you download as you play. But yes it certainly sounds like something else is running. Try watching task manager and something like MSI Afterburner if you can see what's going on when the glitches happen.
