This is going to be quite difficult to cure I fear...

Lately each morning when the computer is turned on, it's freezing at the login screen, you're unable to click to enter the password, the only option is to hit the reset button on the front.

When the computer starts again, you are able to log on, but various applications will not run, complaining of missing DLL's, these DLL's are present when I check the directory.

The only option I have is to run a system restore to an earlier time, in this case, it's Monday of this week, the computer then starts normally and the applications work, the cycle starts again the next day.

This sounds like slow corruption to me, but what could be causing it?

Try booting in safe mode and logging in, I've seen dodgy drivers do something similiar in the past.

Erratic behaviour is usually caused by a hardware fault, either dodgy ram or overheating (cpu or video), they're the main culprits for the issues you're having.

After it's frozen once, a reboot allows me to log in, but then it complains about missing dll's.

OK - I had a problem at freezing at the Windows splash screen - but works in Safe mode - narrowed it down to and confirmed it was / is the GFX card.
