Freezing in BIOS

Problem started when my computer froze during normal use - mouse cursor frozen, ctrl+alt+delete did nothing.

Attempted reinstall, and got error msg to do with reading the disk (I assumed hard disk). So I tried a different hard disk, same error. I tried booting up Windows 7 install without hard disk connected, and the setup loaded fine at first, but failed afterwards when I tried again.

Now, I've removed all hard disks and the CD drive.
Currently testing with
MSI P67A-C45 B3
Intel i5 2500K
Corsair XMS3 2x2GB (only using 1 stick)
Ati HD5800
BeQuiet PurePower 530W
Keyboard

It sometimes freezes when I go into the BIOS, and definitely freezes when running memtest (the red + still flashes even though it's frozen, - I don't know if that's significant). During memtest, the motherboard occasionally beeps (never finds any errors though). Tried switching the sticks and memory slots.
I've also tried resetting the BIOS.
I was tempted to update to the newest version (mine is 1 version old) but I'm worried it'll freeze mid-update.

Any ideas what the problem might be? I'm very frustrated here :(
