Hi Folks,

I removed one of my PowerColor 3870X2's for RMA and since then I have had nothing but trouble with my system.

I am experiencing random system freezes where the whole system locks up. The image on the screen is frozen, I can't move my mouse pointer For example, I can make my comptuer freeze if I drag my Steam window up and down through the list of games I have bought fast. At all times the system locks up its when I am using my mouse.

I have run memtest86 2.11 and passed all the memory checks, I have removed all the components in my system and re-seated them, I can run prime95 for a few hours with no issues. I have updated my BIOS.

One thing I have noticed is that if I am in safe mode, or don't have the ATI drivers installed, I can't seem to get the system to lock up.

I have also tried installing Windows 7 Beta to an external drive, which was fine, but once I put the ATI drivers and Steam on, I was able to get the system to lock up again....

I think it might be some sort of issue with the IRQ of the USB being shared with the 3870X2. I am guessing when I had another card in the system the IRQ's were assigned differently.

Can anyone give me any other ideas on what to check or change?

My system is:

Abit QuadGT
8Gb Corsair Dominator ram (4x2Gb)
PowerColor ATI 3870X2
Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty
Abit AirPace WiFi card

Sorry to bump the post, but does anyone have any ideas at all for me?

I have found a NVIDIA 7300LE PCI-E card, so I am going to be able to test the graphics card tonight, but this one is really winding me up :)

I doubt it will be anything to do with IRQs, shared IRQs is common. It will be the ATi drivers (which you already suspect). Were these setup for Crossfire? Whatever, you didn't say you used DriverCleaner or the ATi driver removal tool, if not try that and then install maybe an older driver version to test it.
