Freezing on Startup

Hey everyone,

I custom built my PC a few years back and recently, after a few transportations in the back of my car and other sorts I'm finally starting to have some issues with my rig,

It was out of use for about a year when I finished uni and it has now decided to occasionally freeze during startup, it hangs on the screen with the windows logo before the login screen. Other times it boots up fine which is what I don't really get.

My setup is as follows

ASRock Extreme4 Gen3 MOBO
8Gb Corsair Vengeance RAM
Intel 2500K Processor
NVidia GTX 760 2048Mb from Gigabtye
SSD and HDD

So far the only thing I have done is take the CPU cooler off, the CPU off and redone the thermal paste and give it a general clean,

Anyone out there able to give me any advice? The next thing I thought to do would have been to replace the MOBO but I'd rather not if I can save it how it is,

Thanks all!

I advise checking every single connection, reseating the RAM, SATA cables to hard drives, GPU and power connectors to check that nothing got shaken out during the transports.

Have you tried booting into safe mode or the recovery environment?

Try a chkdsk if possible, to make sure your HDDs are all good after being transported.

Otherwise I'd suggest stripping your machine down and build again.

It just seems strange that sometimes it will go through to the login screen fine and then sometimes it hangs

I haven't done a chkdsk, I should really check the HDDs, tbh this is my first time having to try and troubleshoot a custom PC that I have put together so I'm a bit lost when it comes to these things

Thanks for the suggestions I will have to pry it open when I'm next back home
