Paul Ricard
When was the track built?
Work began on pastis magnate Paul Ricard’s track in 1969, with French racers Jean-Pierre Beltoise and Henri Pescarolo acting as consultants on the layout. Racing began at the circuit a year later.
When was its first Grand Prix?
Formula 1 hit the Circuit Paul Ricard in 1971, with Jackie Stewart winning the inaugural race in his Tyrrell 003.
What’s the circuit like?
The Circuit Paul Ricard’s even distribution of high-, medium- and low-speed corners is a key reason why it’s one of the most used test circuits in the world (the typically good weather is another). F1 drivers love the 290km/h right-hander at Signes and the 5g joyride of the following Beausset bend, while the circuit’s 2018 return to the F1 calendar showed that the French Grand Prix track is a bit of an overtaking gem.
Why go?
Drive just 10km south of the circuit and you’ll find yourself on the French Riviera, one of the most revered coastlines in the world thanks to its beautiful beaches, pretty harbourside towns, great food and, if you fancy it, incredible local wines. Apart from the racing action, that’s why you go!
Where is the best place to watch?
The Chicane series of grandstands put you at the best overtaking point on the track (as Sebastian Vettel proved during his 2018 fightback from 17th to fifth), while if you want to be closer to the fun and friendly Paul Ricard paddock, bag seats in the Virage du Pont stands to watch cars making their way through the final corner before blasting away down the main straight.

Cheers @Shimmy, nice to see the annual race in a French car park.

Big race (aren't they all) for Ferrari, and for Vettel in particular. In 2018 this wasn't quite when his season fell apart, but it did mark a beginning of sorts - his propensity to hit someone on the opening corners and go into a spin or puncture.

Thanks for the thread Shimmy.

Agree with the Ferrari/Vettel sentiment above. I would like to think they can sort themselves out and use the weekend as a turning point, but instead think they are going to screw up again.

British Airways have screwed up a little. Left a load of luggage behind instead of putting it on the flight to Marseilles. So there's a load of people in mufti at Racing Point, McLaren, Red Bull and Renault instead of their team kit.

There are flights every hour to France (not BA), I'm pretty sure someone can get the kit if they really wanted to. Hell even driving down it would be there for tomorrow. Failing that, they could just buy it from the gift shops haha.

I reckon non-uniform day is probably more interesting though anyway.

Ferrari have lost their bid to have the Canadian penalty reviewed.

So their 'overwhelming new evidence' consisted of:
Karun Chandhok on the sky pad...

Wow....

Ferrari have brought a substantial load of updates that will apparently bring at least 0.3s to the car due to correlation issues in the wind tunnel and CFD.

Vettel asked how they updates felt: "Not so good, to be honest"

Yet again they have correlation issues. But at least they've noticed them early in the year rather than once the championship was pretty much lost last year.

It's like being at school, so unprofessional of ferrari to include that as evidence.

Stewards: Why do you believe there is new evidence we should review to back up your case?
Ferrari: Because Karun said so after he watched it on his tablet.
The whole thing should have been forgotten about and confined to history by Thursday so we can move on to this week's race, but no it drags on as there's nothing else to get excited about.
Suprise surprise sky keep droning on about it in both practice sessios..
Also sick of the ex F1 expert drivers going on too, someone tweeted in to point out how retarded Paul Di Resta's idea of somehow making it out to be Lewis' fault.

It just makes Ferrari look as unprofessional as Vettel. You have to ask where the buck stopped for whoever made the decision to go ahead with a request for review with such laughable "evidence". Ferrari should have just drawn a line under it and moved on. Instead, I bet Vettel is in the car this weekend still angry about how he was robbed of the win.
