On the back of my twisted horror movies thread, I would like to get any and all recommendations for french horror movies. Over the last few months i've watched...

Frontiers - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0814685/
Calvaire (The Ordeal) - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0407621/
Haute Tension (Switchblade Romance) - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0338095/
Martyrs - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1029234/
À l'intérieur (Inside) - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0856288/

...and maybe a couple of others of which the title escapes me.

Every single one of these movies has impressed on various levels and i'm looking for much more. I'm sure folks will start reeling off movies from other euro countries and oriental horror flicks, let me emphasise that it's really only french movies i'm after, I will broaden this to other euro-horror, but that's about it at the moment :)

In regards to no recommendations for the oriental stuff, i've seen the majority of it and it doesn't affect me in the same way for some reason. Maybe due to growing up with the extremity of oriental cinema and in my mind it's a given that they'll push the envelope, something which the french seem to be taking over.

So hit me with your suggestions, cheers!

You've pretty much already seen the best of the crop. There is also "Sheitan" starring Vincent Cassel, but I found it pretty underwhelming with a torrid bunch of main characters that I, quite frankly, wished had died in more horrible circumstances.

The French new 'extreme' wave is pretty.... well, new. There are others [Irreversible, I Stand Alone, Trouble Every Day] which, though extreme, don't technically count as horror. I'd also give an honourable mention to Ils for its pure effectiveness and tension - through lack of gore.

I think we've covered all the bases already.
