Hi,

I'm having problems with FSX Steam Edition. I have just built a new setup with the following spec..

Amd FX 6300 6 Core Processor (stock not overclocked yet)

Msi 970 Gaming Motherboard

8Gb DDR3 2133hz Ram

Msi Gaming Nvidia 960 2GB (stock not overclocked yet)

240GB SSD (550/500)

1TB Hard Drive (FSX is installed here)

LG 24GM77 144hz Monitor - set at 120hz

I have just done a fresh install of Windows 8.1 and everything is running perfectly.

When I run FSX I have these funny graphics and the fps is low 30s (I expected more really). The graphics are really gritty too.

Any ideas?

Matt

IIRC FSX is very lightly-threaded but CPU-heavy, so an AMD chip may not perform so well.

Have you installed the latest graphics drivers from nVidia and check the graphics options in FSX?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I have downloaded Geforce Experience, which downloads the latest drivers. They are all installed. I know AMD chips aren't the absolute best but it should be more than enough to play it at stock settings, which this is. Ive checked in FSX too and the settings aren't on that high.

FSX Steam has been recompiled to make it more modern and faster. I played it a few weeks ago n an AMD 4100 with only 4GB ram and had no issues like this. Im thinking its driver related or something as the graphics are all shot.

Just to rule out a few things, I've just installed x plane 10 demo and Minecraft. Minecraft is fine and I'm getting between 150 and 300fp with everything maxed out. X plane 10 I'm getting between 35 and 50fps with high everything and also HDR. Has to be some error in fsx then?

To update , I think this is a directx issue as I have just installed my X-Plane 10 and its working like magic. Everything turned close to max and im getting 50-60fps without HDR on and 30-40fps with HDR on. Running flawlessly.

Steam version includes both the equivalent of the service packs and Acceleration so should make better use of multi-cores etc. However it's still seriously CPU bound.

Never seen that rectangle effect your screenshots show. Have you tried DX10 preview mode as that might help but expect some addons to fail unless you buy the DX Fixer program by Steve what's-his-name.

Hi,

Does it on DX9 or DX10. X-Plane works perfectly as do other games I use so must be FSX Steam Edition.

Ive actually just wiped my PC so in the process of reinstalling everything so will try again and update the thread.

Its looking like its because I turned off Anisotropic filtering. I thought that would be too harsh for the card so will try that when ive installed it again

Yaaaaay , its working perfectly now. It was the Anistropic filtering. I didn't think it would affect it so much but did. Getting approx 45-55fps in FSX now with max settings, apart from slightly reduced autogen!
