Fresh instal XP - Ati drivers crash system?

I am stumped and need a possible solution to this please.

Fresh XP instal on a formatted C Drive.
NForce drivers installed for NF7-s V2
Installed Virus protection Kaspersky
Windows update completed

at every stage I have made a restore point because of...
- each time I try to instal the Ati Drivers for my X800 it hangs window at the start screen?

I have tried with the latest 7.2 and tried using back as far as 6.8 now.
I can run in Windows fine, with the basic graphics detected
(in device manager it shows that I have no drivers installed)

every time without fail - instal Ati driver and it will not boot into windows

any ideas? its driving me insane now

Try older drivers like the 6 series.

Check that you have got Microsoft's .NET framework installed and updated. Maybe this is part of the problem? The Ati Control panel has been built with this - so could be causing problems.

Have you tried installing the driver in Safe Mode?

Have you tested the graphics card in a different PC? May be the card is failing?

When installing the graphics driver, disable the Anti-Virus software incase it is being over protective.

Upgraded NET Framework to 2 and now 3 with no change
Disabled the Anti-Virus software and it still crashes.

Going to have a go in Safe Mode - using 6.5 Drivers now

ok - I managed to instal the ATi Drivers in safe mode, with errors.

and now I have 2 conflicts in Device Manager

But, I can at least load Windows which is a plus so I am no complaining.
What's the best option now to resolve this?

You will have to describe your images. The pictures are not appearing in the post, and even when I try and go direct to the URLs a shown in the "new post" email, they will not load up.

Imageshack is pretty hopeless a lot of the time - you get what you pay for as they say.

hmmm.... Imageshack is flakey at times I agree.

1st Image - shows a balloon with "Found New Hardware" but the message states that there was a problem encountered during installation and my new hardware might not work properly.

2nd Image - Device Manager - expanded the Display adapters tab to show that the drivers for the Ati x800 Primary & Secondary have been installed.
Also shown is a tab for "other Devices" not recognised. This show 2 devices that do not have any drivers installed ( these are the Ati X800 drivers installed above! )

I have not installed the Cataylst Control Centre either, perhaps this will help if I do?
So I can just leave it as is - running, but with conflicts. But I would rather sort it out now before installing more software.

Just turned on the PC and it has the same issue - won't load into windows!

It was working for the lst few days and now - POW! - same error.

Do you think the old X800 XT PE is on it's way out?
But why is it still able to be used once I remove all the Ati Drivers?
